About Cody

I was born in Elkins to Lanny & Kim Thompson and grew up on the Sully Road near Alpena. I graduated from Harman High School in 2005. I also graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education in 2011 and a Masters Degree in Multi-Categorical Special Education from West Virginia University in 2018.
I have been a teacher with Randolph County Schools since 2012 and I currently teach Civics / Contemporary Studies at Elkins High School. I strive daily to instill a love for history in my students and to get them involved and interested in government. I genuinely love my job and seeing students learn and grow as individuals.
I enjoy spending time my family and my pets as much as possible. I absolutely love being outside hiking, camping, snowboarding, and kayaking and taking in the beauty of the Mountain State. I take a special interest in learning and reading about local and state history (something I inherited from my Grandpa Shifflett.) I am truly honored and humbled to represent the folks of Randolph and Pocahontas Counties in Charleston. Please feel free to always reach out to me with any concerns you may have.
